For the last couple of years, I have happily used the SteelSeries 5H v2 headset. Whether it’s gaming, watching movies or just listening to music, the 5H v2 has served me well. Unfortunately, I have noticed that my non-stop use has started to degrade them, and on occasion, mostly during heavy bass, I hear a small crackle or two.
Knowing I am getting close to a point in time where I’m going to need a new headset, I have been keeping a close eye on SteelSeries’ offerings. Thankfully, SteelSeries has just introduced a headset that I want, and I want it now!
The brand new H Wireless Headset is a multi-platform headset compatible with the Xbox 360, PS3/PS4, PC, Mac and more. Powered by SteelSeries’ next-generation drivers, the H Wireless molests your ear holes with surround-sound from three Dolby technologies; Dolby Digital (cinematic audio experience), Dolby Headphone (7.1 audio), and Dolby Pro Logic IIx (realistic multi-directional sound).
In addition, the H Wireless Headset, is as the name implies, wireless. Using a fixed-latency, frequency-hopping system, the H Wireless ensures listeners get an uninterrupted audio performance by continuously searching between available wireless frequencies.
SteelSeries has included additional ear candy with the H Wireless including ChatMix (user-selected balance between game audio and chat audio) and LiveMix (automatically lowering gaming audio when chat audio is detected.
All of these features sound great, but what really gets me excited is the multi-platform support. Not just for consoles and computers, the H Wireless can connect to ANY mobile device via the headset’s Sound Share port. And, SteelSeries has provided ALL of the cables and accessories necessary for its multitude of connection options.
With virtually an unlimited battery life, the H Wireless ships with two 20-hour lithium-ion batteries. In other words, once you go wireless, you’ll never go wired!
Other sweet features include the ability to control everything either from the wireless transmitter box (which doubles as a charger for that second battery) or the scroll wheel on the right earcup, the ability to save up to 5 audio profiles and the transmitter’s bright OLED display menu which displays setting options from connectivity to battery.
The SteelSeries H Wireless Headset is available for $299.99 and starts shipping this month. I haven’t gotten my hands on one yet; but from what I’ve read, I am looking forward to getting one asap.
