The 6 New Shows You Should Be Watching

The new TV season is upon us and scattered among the returning shows are a slew of new offerings. Here are my choices, in no particular order, for the 6 you need to add to your DVR.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Netflix)
Marvel’s Daredevil was surprisingly good, and Jessica Jones is paving the way for The Defenders mini-series. Krysten Ritter stars as Jones, an ex-superhero who is now a private investigator. Carrie-Anne Moss, Rachael Taylor, and David Tennant co-star. Premieres December 2015.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (CW)
Reprising their roles from Arrow and The Flash, Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller are brought together to prevent Vandal Savage from destroying the world and time itself. Premieres January 2016 (tie-in episodes of The Flash and Arrow beginning October 6).

Lucifer (Fox)
Based on the DC Comics character Lucifer who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the beauty of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals. Starring Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar and Lesley-Ann Brandt as Maze. Premieres 2016.

Supergirl (CBS)
Kara Zor-El has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman since arriving on Earth. Now at 24, she decides to become the hero she was always meant to be. Disappointingly, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) exists in a different universe from the DC movies and TV shows. Premieres October 26, 2015.

Ash vs. Evil Dead (Starz)
Bruce Campbell returns as an older Ash. Co-staring Lucy Lawless, Jill Marie Jones, Dana Delorenzo and Ray Santiago, Ash vs. Evil Dead will be co-produced by director/creator Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who originally produced the first Evil Dead film. Premieres October 31, 2015

The Muppets (ABC)
The show will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, and will be produced in the style of The Office, the new show will detail, in mock-documentary style, the adventures of Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and the rest of the gang as they return to prime time. Premieres September 22, 2015.

Honorable Mentions:
Limitless (CBS), The Frankenstein Code (Fox), Blindspot (NBC), The Player (NBC), Hand of God (Amazon), Public Morals (TNT), Wicked City (ABC).
