I woke up this morning ready to hit the floor running. I have two interviews and two product reviews sitting in my stack of things to do and was feeling positive Then, I checked my email, social media and news, and as I read the hate and discontent of the world, I saw my old friend Depression walk into the room, grab a cup of coffee, and sit down next to me. I hate that guy.
What kind of life are you living? Why is there so much hate and bullshit? It’s like people enjoy it, and need it to survive each day. Has hate been in your life for so long it has become your lover? Have anger and hostility been with you so long, you get an adrenaline rush or an orgasm from the negative high? Has animosity become your heroin and you’re like a junkie looking for your next fix? I don’t understand what drives people to hate.
I’m 43-years-old and let me tell you something I have learned in my lifetime; being angry, spiteful and mean does NOT feel good. Every day when I wake up I try to do my damnedest to make this world a better place. What gets me is how this world doesn’t want that. People would rather hate others for life experiences they don’t understand, they don’t fully know, or they don’t like. A person’s past doesn’t define them. Everybody has “skeletons in their closet,” but they don’t define them.
I can’t even imagine what these people are teaching their children. Instead of looking after them and ensuring a brilliant future, they are actively campaigning against their survival.
I am not afraid of people simply because of their gender, religion, national origin or sexual preference. Why would I be? What I AM afraid of, correction, TERRIFIED of is the future generations who have been taught racism, transphobia/homophobia, misogyny or any other form of hate that exists in society.
After the recent Planned Parenthood shooting, I read comments from people that cheered the shooters. “They were getting abortions! They deserved to die!” WHAT THE EVERLASTING F#CK?!?! Let me get this straight, you’re against abortion because a fetus is a living being, but you’re ok with killing people who don’t think like you, and don’t have the same beliefs you do? YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!! Violence against violence won’t get us anywhere.
Why externalize so much hate through violence? Why try and deny people of basic human rights? Why try to impose your opinions, be it religious, political, or whatever and not just simply understand there are those which are different?
Today, I challenge you to ponder what Martin Luther King, Jr. said at his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in 1964: “Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation.”
