Netflix has announced a $1.00 per month price increase for their “Standard” streaming plan, though this price increase won’t happen for current subscribers until October 2016.
The “Standard” plan supports HD streams for up to two simultaneous users. The price for the non-HD plan will remain at the $8 a month price. Netflix stock prices saw a 3% increase following the announcement.
Netflix, via Twitter, claims the price increase will allow them to “brig [sic] more great content to users.” And by “more great content” Netflix really means they will continue to remove a bunch of movies every month and continue to add a much smaller collection of garbage.
Personally, I feel as if this price increase is nothing more than a play to appease Netflix shareholders. Netflix users are already paying enough for a service that, with the exception of Daredevil, lacks quality programming.
